Job description

Under the supervision of the transportation coordinator, the truck driver / dispatcher ensures deliveries are made within tight deadlines while adapting to logistical changes, both at the factory and on job sites. In addition, this person will be expected to take charge of transportation scheduling and management for a few weeks each year, acting as a substitute for the transportation coordinator.

More specifically, the truck driver / dispatcher will be responsible for:

On the road :

  • Deliver materials to construction sites in Quebec and Ontario (primarily Ottawa);
  • Be prepared to spend one night away from home per week for deliveries in Ontario, returning home the other nights;
  • Move trailers around the factory grounds;
  • Ensure compliance with road safety standards as well as occupational health and safety standards;
  • Keep records up to date;
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service;
  • Perform any other related tasks.

From the office ((as a replacement for the coordinator)) :

  • Plan and optimize routes based on priorities, constraints, and emergencies;
  • Ensure that pickup and delivery deadlines are met;
  • Rigorously track activities using our internal IT tools;
  • Maintain constant communication with drivers, units, partners, and internal teams;
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service;
  • Perform any other related tasks.

Skills sought

  • Valid Class 1 driver’s license;
  • At least 5 years of experience driving heavy vehicles;
  • Good driving record;
  • A good understanding of transportation and logistics operations;
  • Experience in dispatching (preferred).
